Electricity supply hits 16hrs per day, says minister

Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, yesterday assured Nigerians that the current on-going revolution in the electricity power sector will surpass that of the one witnessed in the telecommunications industry.
The Minister also disclosed that availability of electricity has considerably increased in Major Nigerian cities from 10 hours to 16 hours per day with the groundbreaking of Zungeru Hydro power plant.

Nebo while giving the Ministry’s mid-term score-card during a presentation at the 2013 Ministerial Platform in Abuja stated that the current privatisation reform in Nigeria was the largest in the world, assuring that before the end of 2014, most Nigerians would smile.
According to him, additional 1,200MW would be generated from coal through the help of China.

The Minister listed some of the achievements so far made to include: privatisation of five generation and 10 distribution companies at concluding stages; sale of 10 generation power plants with accompanying distribution and transmission components, among others.

He assured that despite the daunting challenges, the Ministry would intensify efforts at ensuring the full implementation of Federal Government’s the power roadmap.
