Qualities my successor must possess – Obi

Governor Peter Obi has listed three attributes the next governor of Anambra State should possess to succeed.
Obi, who addressed President-Generals of Anambra State town unions at the weekend, said to be successful as governor of the state, the person must be less greedy for money; live a decent life and be youthful.
According to Obi, his experience has shown that nobody ever gets satisfied with money and so the next governor must be one who is less greedy for money so as to have enough to spend on development projects in Anambra State.
Obi recalled that greed can be attributed as one of the factors that ruined past administrations, saying the incoming governor must be self-satisfied so that members of his cabinet can emulate him.
Obi also said the next governor must be modest so as to have time for the state. He stressed: “A man who is not satisfied with his wife, but must go after other women, can hardly perform his optimum”.
He recalled that servants in the Governor’s Lodge told him the life pattern of past occupants of the Lodge and that mibght have accounted for their not very satisfactory output.
Obi noted that the Governor’s Lodge is not meant for a crowd of family members, but a few people, so as to allow the governor concentrate on governance.
He gave instance of a British Prime Minister who could not occupy the official residence because of his large family.
Obi expressed belief that the next governor of the state should be youthful, stressing that the task of running the state is not the business of old men, giving the running around involved in it.
He said running the state is not something spectacular, or so difficult for people, especially those from certain areas of the town.
He restated his view that the post of the governors should be rotated to get to areas, which has not produced governors before.
Obi has, however, said all necessary measures were being put in place to protect the state against adverse effects of flood this year.
Obi, who was speaking at an interactive session with stakeholders on flood at Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka, announced that the government will spend about N1billion on procurement of HIV testing kits to be  distributed to all hospitals and health centres across the state.
He lamented that the state has high prevalence of AIDS/HIV because previous administrations failed to make any approachable efforts to check the spread and assured that his administration will take proactive measures to reverse the trend.

Obi warned that the government will soon commence demolition of all brothels and other centres that encourage prostitution, urging the people not to discriminate against People Living with HIV/AIDS, but to show them love and compassion.
