7 PDP governors face expulsion

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, is set to wield the big stick against seven governors elected on the party’s platform for what it described as anti-party activities. This development followed the governors’ move to float a new political party, the Voice of the People, VOP.

Governors likely to be suspended are Rabiu Kwankwaso (Kano), Govs of Rivers, Sokoto, Niger, Kwara, Jigawa and Adamawa states. The PDP also alleged that the alleged plot by Amaechi to scuttle its convention had been uncovered.
It said that the party’s leadership uncovered a plot by the governor and the newly-appointed Acting Chief Justice of the state, Justice Peter Agumagu, to prevent the state delegation from participating in the party’s national convention slated for this weekend in Abuja.

In a statement signed by the State Secretary, Ibibia Walter, the party warned the judiciary to be peopleoriented and advised the people of the state to be wary of what it described as Governor Amaechi’s antics. He also advised them to guard against the unsavoury moves to cause disunity in the state. Okocha, however, warned the leadership of the party that its action was subjudice, since there was a pending court action on the issue against it.
He added that the party did not have the power to expel him or any other member of the party, accusing the leadership of hatching a plan to use fake party delegates in this weekend’s national convention. Okocha also queried the wisdom behind the PDP embarking on steps capable of dividing its house instead of promoting the party.
He said: “PDP does not have such powers to expel me or any member of the state executive council.
The matter involving Felix Obuah executive is in court, so it is subjudice. “We challenge them to publish the names of the eight commissioners who they said wrote to them giving reasons on why they could not attend the invitation of the so-called Performance Evaluation Committee and the yardstick they employed in arriving at their decision. “What they are planning is to use fake delegates to the sub-convention of the PDP that is coming up this weekend.

The thing to ask is why is PDP fighting PDP? A House divided against itself cannot stand. “Let them also show us the letter they claimed to have sent out. We all know that the PDP in the state has two factions, the original one led by Chief Godspower Ake and the Felix Obuah faction.”

On the claims by Walter that Amaechi and Agumagu are conniving to get a court injunction to prevent the state delegates from attending the convention and to stop the convention in Abuja from holding, Okocha explained that the charge was frivolous, adding that no such action was being envisaged.
