Corrupt Leaders Must Be Stopped In Nigeria - Okorocha

The Executive Governor of Imo State, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha, has said that corrupt leaders in Nigeria must be stopped as urgent as possible if the country must witness any development and economic growth.
The governor who was addressing a Town Hall Meeting with Imo state sons and daughters which was a side event of the ongoing Imo State Congress in Atlanta, Georgia yesterday said that corruption had become a parasite which he claimed had eaten the country's economy to a stage of destruction. "It is not too late to stop the leaders that are destroying the country with corruption" he noted.
He pressed further that with corrupt leaders in Nigeria, the country would not experience any progress just as he charged Nigerians to rise up in their anger and fight corruption to a standstill in order for the country to grow economically.
His words: "What is happening in Imo state now has never been recorded in the past twenty years and that was the result of my decision not to allow corruption in my government. I want you all to know that it was not my desire to be governor in Imo state but i had to come on a rescue mission when i saw failure instead of success.
"The level and the condition i met the state was very embarrassing to the extents that my colleagues did not want to spend nights anytime they visited me. I almost fainted the day Ohakim was handing over to me because everywhere looked very bad".
Speaking on education, Okorocha said that he decided to make education free from Primary school level up to Tertiary Institutions just for every parent to be able to send their children to school. He noted that some girls had turned to prostitutes while boys turned to criminals just because they want to pay their school fess. "The level of crimes and prostitution among our girls and boys had reduced since we made them enjoy free education at all levels. In fact, we do pay some stipends to all our students just for them to be very comfortable" he said.
According to him: "Education is worth appreciating in the state. You must appreciate something that you want to get the best out of. You can never get the best out of something you do not appreciate, and something you do not appreciate will surely depreciate".
While blaming past administrations for under-development in Imo state, Okorocha, a chieftain of the newly registered All Progressive Congress (APC), attributed the success of his administration to the supports and cooperation of the members of the State House of Assembly most especially the Four Years Budget Plan that they approved for the government which he claimed had helped him to accomplish all the projects being embarked upon.
Speaking on why he joined the All Progressive Congress (APC), the governor said that he joined the party so that the South East could be reckoned with in the present political dispensation just as he urged all the people from the region to quickly join the newly registered political party for unity which was once enjoyed by the region to re-surface once again.
His words: "PDP has no plan for the South East because it cannot guarantee an Ibo man becoming the president in 2015. APGA also cannot guarantee an Ibo man becoming the president of the nation because it is not a national party but it is only the APC that can make this happen so i implore all the people from the South East to come and join us".

Okorocha however urged the indigenes of Imo State who live in the Diaspora to come back home in order to join his administration to develop the state. He said: "Why should you, upon all your qualifications, come to America, pick up dirty jobs and still be insulted when there are better opportunities for you to team up with my administration if you know you have the potentials to help develop the state" .
