Enugu House of Assembly goes online

The Enugu state House of Assembly has established a functional website, www.enugustatehoa.gov.ng making it the third in the country to become part of the emergent e-legislation regime after Lagos and Kano state Houses of Assembly.
The House is therefore to make use of e-legislation and operational legislative budget offices.
Commissioning the website yesterday, Speaker of the state house of assembly, Mr. Eugene Odoh said Website was made possible through partnership with DFID- SAVI
Odoh stated that without law making, there would be no law interpretation and its execution, adding that the e-legislation has improved capacity of the house members.
He stated that it will help in both pre and post budget allocations as well as in research.
The speaker noted that it is an interactive forum for easy access to the legislators and for a maximum of 48 feedback by the representatives.
Odoh described it as a dream come true, which according to him would make the lawmakers more responsible and alive to their responsibilities.
According to him, “with the advent of the website thus embarking on e-legislation, we must be conscious of the fact that we are now under public surveillance and the world can now use this platform to asses us.
“This noble project will also assist us and our staff in data collation, processing and information dissemination”.
Odoh further stated that information played vital role in legislative processes and law making, adding “if it is technologically driven, it makes the job of the legislature easier and enhances productivity.
“Now we can access the website to acquaint and expose ourselves with what our counterparts all over the world are doing and domestically improve on it.
“It will also assist us in conducting researches in relevant areas of specialized interest. Individuals can use this medium to determine our level of improvement and commitment to the people”.
The Speaker commended the Enugu State Team Leader of SAVI, Pastor Mrs. Ifeoma Chukwuma, as well as the South-East Regional Adviser to the organization, Kevin Gager for providing the website and for assisting the Assembly to open a budget office.
He said: “You have also moved a step further to assist us in our town hall meetings, assisted the House in furnishing the Legislative Budget Office for a smooth take-off ”.
