The
Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) has urged the Presidency to keep Major Hamza
al-Mustapha, the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to late Head of States,
Gen. Sanni Abacha, under security watch.
A
statement by its Osun State Co-Ordinator, Mr. Oyeyinka Awoyemi, and Secretary,
Mr. Waheed Olaniyan, noted that despite being discharged and acquitted of his
alleged offences by the Appeal Court, al-Mustapha should be kept under constant
surveillance.
“Though
the judgment of the Appeal Court, sitting in Lagos, has exonerated him, it must
be noted that the case was not diligently prosecuted.
“However,
woe betides whoever can kill the body but not the soul. Though killed, the
spirit of (Alhaja) Kudirat Abiola will continue to demand justice even beyond
this realm.
“We are
now sounding a serious warning to the Federal Government not to allow
al-Mustapha to go unwatched as he is capable of returning to his vomit. At
least, it is said that the leopard never changed colour,” the group said.
It
expressed its preparedness to confront the dreaded Islamist sect, Boko Haram,
if it extends it atrocities to the Southwest.
OPC
said it was ready to collaborate with the police to fight terrorism.
