RIVERS KICKS OFF CENTENARY CELEBRATION


The centenary celebration to mark 100 years anniversary of Port Harcourt City  kicks off on Friday with a marathon.
Chairman of the centenary planning committee and Secretary to the Rivers State Government, George Feyii, who spoke to journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday said the activities to mark 100 years of the existence of Port Harcourt, include a football tournament, beauty pageant and photo exhibition which will feature photographs of founding fathers.

The Secretary to the State Government, who said the celebration will last till December, added that a symposium with the theme, “Port Harcourt, past, present and future”, will be held. 

According to him, “The event will dovetail into the annual state cultural carnival. There will be an opportunity to showcase the cultural heritage of the state. We will have a big bang display, and develop a monument that will commemorate the 100 years anniversary. 
The 100 years of the  existence of Port Harcourt is worth celebrating. Port Harcourt was founded on August 30, 2013, and it may interest you to know that it is one year older than Nigeria which was amalgamated in 1914”.
