Dana crash: Lagos settles land owners with N20m

Five landlords whose lands were acquired by the Lagos State government in the aftermath of the June 3, 2012 Dana Air crash at Iju-Ishaga area of the state have been compensated to the tune of N20 million.
The acquired land measured 2,834.917 square metres. Those compensated have approved land documents.
Those who benefitted from the compensation include Isaac Aduroja, Pastor Daniel Omowumi,  Ramota Akinwusi, Pastor Ezekiel Akin-Jesu and Wahab Oshinaya.
They received their cheques on Tuesday from the government at the event held at the Lands Bureau Ministry.
Briefing newsmen after the presentation, Permanent Secretary, Lands Bureau, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, said between N4 million to N5 million was paid per plot, in accordance with fair market value and that only those with genuine documents were compensated.
Muri-Okunola, who was represented by Executive Secretary, Lands Bureau, and Acting Permanent Secretary, Aina Salami, said after the Dana crash, the damaged buildings had to be demolished, as they were no longer safe for human habitation.
He stated that Governor Babatunde Fashola approved that a cenotaph and an epitaph be erected on the crash site as a memorial to the departed souls, saying that the monument also serve as a place where relations, friends and loved ones could visit to relieve pains and agony associated with the mishap.
“This memorial should remind Nigerians to be cautious and to do all in their power to prevent such occurrence.
The state government is therefore, by erecting the cenotaph, ensuring that the lessons of the incident are not lost on us as a people.
“Since the destruction of the structures, fitting, improvement, fixtures and personal properties as a result of the plane crash, it is expected that the management of Dana Airlines Limited will compensate all those who were affected in that regard,” he said.
Muri-Okunola stated that Fashola approved that monetary compensation be paid to owners of the land on the basis of the prevailing fair market value of land within the neighbourhood.
