Former Military Vice President Mike Akhigbe Dies at 68

Admiral Mike Akhigbe, Nigeria’s former military vice president has passed away. He was 68.

Late  Akhigbe died on Monday at a New York Hospital in United States. He was said to have recently undergone some medical procedure both  in Germany and United states.

Akhigbe had a successful military career. He rose to become Chief of Naval Staff and was a Military Governor of Ondo state between September 1985 – August 1986 and Lagos state  from August 1986 – July 1988.

Akhigbe was military vice-president in the regime headed by Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar that returned Nigeria to democracy in May 1999.
