Perm Sec Overrules Former SGF On Appointment Of DG

Fresh crisis is brewing at the National Productivity Center (NPC) over the appointment of a Director-General for the agency.
The crisis is following the appointment of two Director-Generals by the former Secretary to the Government (SGF), Senator Ayim Pius Ayim, and the immediate Minister of Labour and Productivity, Senator Danladi Ikenya.
The immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Anyim had in a letter dated May 28, 2015, asked the immediate past Minister of Labour and Productivity, Senator Danladi Ikenya to act on a letter dated May 15, 2015, appointing Dr. Faith Robert as Director General of the Centre.
In the letter with Reference number SGF/6/S11/V1, Anyim asked the Minister to refer to “my earlier appointment letter” on “Mr. President’s approval of Dr. Faith Owabhel Robert as Director-General, National Productivity Centre on the 19th May, 2015, vide the attached appointment letter dated 15th May, 2015,” wrote the SGF.
However, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. O. C. Illoh in a statement on Monday in Abuja refused to act on the SGF’s letter, saying he would only act on the letter the SGF asked the Minister to withdraw.
Illoh’s letter read; “this is to inform the general public that a new Director-General has been appointed for the National Productivity Centre. He is Alhaji Yinusa AKOR, BSC. PGDAP, MPA.
“His appointment took effect from 19th May, 2015. The appointment was conveyed by the Hon. Minister of Labour and Productivity, Sen. Danladi Ikenya through a letter Reference number HMO/LAB/114, dated.19th May, 2015”, wrote Illoh.
Our correspondent gathered that Akor has locked up the office to prevent Robert, who has a PhD in metabolic engineering from continuing in office.
