Shock as Woman dumps 3-day old baby in Benin

Residents of Obazuaye Street, off Osakpamwan Street, Evbareke Quarters, in Benin, capital of Edo state, on Tuesday woke up to discover a 3-day-old baby girl dumped in a residential home in the area.
Investigations by the residents was said to have led to the discovery of the woman responsible for the act and identified as Joy Tunde.

Joy allegedly owned up to her inhuman act after residents of the area were said to have threatened to deploy spiritual means to expose whoever was responsible.

Following her confession, some residents of the area expressed their anger over the manner the baby was dumped and left under the rain for three days before its discovery.

Mother of the baby, Joy Tunde, said she previously had a baby for another man before the latest incident, adding that, she decided to dump the baby after the man who was responsible for her pregnancy denied responsibility of the baby.

She was later arrested alongside her mother by men of the Textile Mill Road Police Division.
Meanwhile, the rescued baby has been taken to the Intensive Care Unit of the Neo-natal Ward of the Benin Central Hospital, through the assistance of the New Medical Director, Dr. Barry Uwadiae.

In an interview, the Hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs Sandra Omoregbe said the baby had bruises on her head but was responding to treatment.
