Ibim Semenitari responds to N1b debt allegation by her successor

The acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Ibim Semenitari, has denied borrowing N1billon while she served as commissioner of information in the immediate past administration of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi from 2006 to 2015.
Amaechi was appointed minister of transportation in the Buhari cabinet, while Semenitari was tapped as NDDC managing director.
The current information commissioner in the Rivers government, Dr. Austin Tam-George, recently alleged that Semenitari borrowed the sum of N1bn, but Semenitari has said that it was impossible to do that as no commissioner had such authority.
“No ministry can borrow from any bank. It is against financial guidelines and service rules. Only a state government can borrow and there was no project in the Ministry of Information requiring government to borrow,” she said in a statement signed by her media aide.
The NDDC MD, described the allegation as “a definite and unfortunate lie”.
