SSS, Army, NSCDC others have no business at the Airports says Amaechi

Minister of Transport, Mr.Rotimi Amaechi, yesterday, expressed concern over the multiplicity of security agencies in the nation’s airports. Amaechi, who spoke in Lagos at the Business Eye Magazine round-table discussion‎, said that only the police should man the vicinity of airports in the country.

He said:”The State Security Service(SSS),Army,Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps and others do not have business at the nation’s airports. If there are security challenges at the airport, the Chief Security Officer(CS0) could invite the Army”‎.

The former governor of Rivers State‎ said the current administration was determined to ensure a transport sector that would add value to the lives of Nigerians.

He said his tenure as the minister of transport would see a strong and virile maritime industry that could stand the test of time. He also said that the railway sub-sector would create several jobs and open up the nation’s economy. Speaking, Lagos Commissioner of Finance,Dr.Abiodun Akinkumi, emphasised the need for state governments in the country to look inward with a view to surviving the nation’s economic crunch.

He said that the state government would not raise taxes but would rather devise palatable measures to garner revenues. The Managing Director of Financial Derivatives Company,Mr.Bismarck Rewane, emphasised the need for the federal government to strengthen the economy and encourage investment.
